History

I must admit I was not a big fan of history when I was a student. I always preferred looking forward rather than looking back. However, when I started my degree I realised that it was so important to understand history. All scientists are familiar with doing a literature search at the beginning of their work to understand what has gone before.

History tells us how much life has changed, how what was common place would now seem to be so strange. Personally, there have been two TV presenters that have brought history to life - Lucy Worsley and Mary Beard. I particularly enjoy Mary Beard's programmes on ancient Rome, what fascinating people they were. I have bought books from both of these outstanding ladies and they were fabulous.
