Astronomy

Recently I had cause to visit my doctor, nothing serious, but while I was in the waiting room I picked up a magazine that had a survey exploring whether the average person on the street could tell the difference between "Astronomy" and "Astrology" and it really saddened me to see that the majority of people interviewed thought they were the same. How very sad - the obvious difference is that astronomy is an old and proud science that explores and explains the universe, whereas astrology is a useless superstition. Why do so many people think they are the same?

I have always enjoyed astronomy, I own a telescope and it's enjoyable to look out at the night sky and see the wonders of the universe. How did the Earth come into existence? How big is a galaxy? What was there before the big bang? How did the moon form? The questions are endless and fortunately there is a vast collection of material out there that can help to answer those questions and explore the questions we don't have an answer for .... yet.
